Six years ago today, President Reagan died. Sadly, this date will not be remembered by most in the media. With the current occupant in the White House, who takes every opportunity to destroy capitalism in America, throw our friends abroad under the bus, and apologize for our perceived wrongs to our potential enemies, I feel this is the perfect date to remember a little of what it was like when America had a true principaled leader. This video I found does a good job of that.

Big step toward the destruction of America...
Well, I hope it is now obvious to everyone that as long as liberals are in charge, our representative republic is dead. We are now well down the road to socialism with yet another entitlement that we (or more precisely our children) cannot afford.
Worst of all, despite the purported deal with "pro-life" democrats (what an oxymoron) involving an executive order from the most pro-abortion president in history, it appears that our government will now make all of us, despite our convictions, pay for the murder of children. What a terrible day for our country...

All the same...
This will be of little interest to most, but my experience the past few weeks have made it clear that my low opinion of government and bureaucracies hold true even for local agencies...
The local county clerk recently saw fit to have the sheriff serve me with papers, and publish my name in the newspaper multiple times as being 'delinquent' on taxes for a house I sold in 2007, taxes that were paid at the closing of the sale. Come to find out, the problem was caused by an error made by the purchaser's bank. As a local business owner in a county where it seems everybody knows everybody, I did not appreciate having my name printed in the paper, possibly giving the impression I was some kind of tax 'deadbeat', especially when no attempt was made to contact me regarding this matter in advance...
I am sure the county clerk was following the 'letter of the law', but is it too much to ask our local officials to show a little common sense and courtesy in such matters? It seems a lot of effort, expense on the counties part, and embarrassment on mine could have been avoided by a few phone calls....
I guess government at all levels is the same...

Green Police
I found this ad, which aired during the Super Bowl, hilarious and scary at the same time. Now before anyone jumps me, I realize this ad is actually FOR a so-called 'green' car. If that is what someone wants to buy, then great...I have no problem with that. The point is, you have a CHOICE.
What I think this ad illustrates, intentionally or not, is where we could be headed if we continue to allow government to make 'environmental' decisions for us...

What is wrong with Illinois?
I am really disgusted today. What is wrong with Republicans in Illinois? Sometimes it is just so frustrating living here...
I have always held my nose & voted for Illinois Republicans because they were usually at least SLIGHTLY less liberal than the alternative. Now, they have nominated a candidate for U.S. Senate who not only voted for cap and trade as a congressman but is so extreme as to even support partial birth abortion! This crosses a line for me....I cannot in good conscience cast a vote for somebody who would vote to allow such a barbaric practice to continue. I would have loved to see this seat (especially since it was Obama's seat) go Republican, but it needs to be held by a REAL Republican or AT LEAST a reasonable facsimile of one. Mark Kirk most definitely IS NOT.
I will not vote for the democrat, so I guess I get to throw my vote away for this office this year...
It is such a shame that a TRUE Conservative can never seem to get any foothold in this state. This was really a missed opportunity...

Roe Vs. Wade anniversary
Today is the anniversary of, in my opinion, one of the worst events in American history, the Roe vs. Wade decision. This decision, since 1973, has led directly to the deaths of almost 50 million American children. If an anniversary of any other tragedy occurs that caused a large loss of life, you can count on media coverage marking the event, yet this anniversary passes with barely a mention. If ANY coverage is given, you can expect someone to appear to hail it as a "wonderful achievement for women", or something similar... I hope one day to instead remember the date this terrible decision is overturned.

Things that make you go hmmm...
I just saw on the news tonight how victims of the Haiti earthquake are being flown to this country for treatment.
This is a good thing, to be sure, but it got me thinking...Hasn't our president, and others of his ilk, spent a good deal of time telling us how horrible and broken our health care system is? Wasn't there even a movie made extolling the "wonders" of the Cuban health care system compared to ours?
It Seems to me, if they really felt this way, that Cuba would make for a much shorter flight....
