In defense of Sarah Palin

Let me be clear...I would have voted for Mccain no matter who his vice presidential pick was. I was not happy with the Mccain nomination from the start, so my vote for him would have definitely been more a vote AGAINST Obama than FOR Mccain. When he picked Sarah Palin, however, I suddenly had a reason to vote FOR the ticket.

Immediately after the election came the mainstream media attacks on Sarah Palin...She was too inexperienced...She cost Mccain the election...and on and on....No big deal, this was to be expected.

Next came so called 'Mccain campaign insiders' trashing Sarah Palin without the courage to go on camera. These guys will be looking for work in other election cycles... They had to lay the blame for the loss somewhere, so again, not surprising, and no big deal...

Now, in the days since the election, I have noticed an increasing number of so called conservative bloggers and others supposedly on 'our side' eager to take their turn at bashing Sarah Palin. To me, THIS is alarming, and IS a big deal...

For the life of me, I cannot understand attacks on Sarah Palin coming from CONSERVATIVES. Sarah Palin represents, perhaps better than any other politician today, EXACTLY the values the Republican party needs to return to, which is also exactly WHY liberals were SO afraid of her and eager to tear her down right from the start.

In Sarah Palin, I see someone who possesses some of the same 'gifts' that Ronald Reagan had, namely the ability to talk 'over the heads' of the mainstream media and connect directly to the people, and a certain 'optimism' that is hard to describe, but was apparent to me every time I heard her talk.

When it came to what is, in my mind, the single, most important conservative issue today, abortion, Sarah Palin is an absolute godsend. She CANNOT be attacked by the left for the usual reasons other pro-life politicians are. It cannot be said she is 'just a man trying to tell women what to do with their bodies.' She cannot be criticized for 'not understanding the issues facing pregnant women.'

This is a woman that, when the chips were down, and she was faced with the pregnancy of a downs syndrome baby, no longer just espoused a conservative position, she LIVED it, and chose life. For this reason, she should be held up as an example by our side.

Conservatives are always quick to turn on and complain about the 'rinos' that get elected and then turn away from their conservative principals shortly thereafter, and rightly so.. But what more could we ask for in a candidate than someone who OBVIOUSLY has the conviction to stand on her principals? We should be doing everything possible to encourage her and more like her to lead the Republican party back to the values it once stood for, not join in with the left to blame her for every conceivable Republican problem...
