State of Jefferson?

I just read a couple of interesting articles here and here, about attempts by people in northern California and southern Oregon to get a measure on the ballot in their states that would allow them to leave their respective states, and join together to form the state of 'Jefferson.'

While an idea such as this would be disregarded as 'radical' by many, A part of me would love to see such a thing actually happen. I am from Southern Illinois, and feel that I could make a strong argument that people in my part of the state have not had proper representation at the federal level, ESPECIALLY in the U.S. Senate, for years due to the population dispersion of Illinois.

Even at the state level, potential representatives from our area have little chance of getting elected if they are not willing to 'play along' with the Chicago politicians.

Perhaps movements such as this, which if successful, would help put power in the hands of smaller groups of people, are what is needed to 'wake up' the bureaucrats at the state AND federal level to the fact that many of us in such states feel we have do not have proper representation, and are tired of liberal policies being forced upon us without our having a voice in the decisions....

I feel exactly the same way about NJ. Down in southern NJ, it's nothing like the stereotype that people have about NJ. It's a little more liberal than I'd like, but conservatism can still be found.

However, at the state level, those of us who hunt and fish and own guns and who believe in conservative principles are largely unrepresented.

Funny - it's the same thing in Washington State. Eastern and Western WA are so complete polar opposites, it's not even funny to joke about. There have even been talks of separating the state before - a guy can wish, I suppose.

Did you know that the deaf population of this country elected a "Deaf President" for themselves?
