Voters have no authority?

In one of the few bright spots in last Tuesday's election results, voters in California voted in favor of 'Proposition 8', a measure which outlawed gay marriage in their state. Gay marriage was legal in California, but had been forced upon them by way of the courts...The people of California had never CHOSE to have gay marriage legal themselves. This election was a sign that even in one of the bluest of blue states, a conservative issue CAN carry the day...

Once this measure passed, democratic lawmakers and other liberals in the state immediately started seeking a way to overturn the will of the people. Please read the following paragraph carefully from a news story about this issue that appeared on this website:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2008/11/10/state/n171337S51.DTL&type=politics

"Forty-four members of the California Legislature filed a friend-of-the-court brief in support one of the three lawsuits seeking to invalidate Proposition 8. The case, brought on behalf of gay couples who have not yet married, argues the ban should be tossed out because voters did not have the authority to make such a dramatic change in state law."

In case it was not apparent, read that last sentence again..."the ban should be tossed out because VOTERS DID NOT HAVE THE AUTHORITY to make such a dramatic change in the state law."

If this is not a CLASSIC example of how liberals view this country, and for what we are ALL in for in the next few years, then I do not know what is...Because an election DID NOT GO THEIR WAY, then suddenly the will of the people is no longer important. In their eyes, when they do not get the results they like, then the VOTERS of the state have NO AUTHORITY to make decisions for themselves. In their mind, in a situation such as this, then OF COURSE it is the WISE LIBERAL JUDGES, who FORCED this issue upon California in the FIRST PLACE, who HAVE THE AUTHORITY, and must step in again and toss out the will of the people in favor of their own edicts.

These same forty four members had no problem accepting the will of the people, I am sure, when it came to the presidential election, since a majority from this same state voted for Obama for President.....The framers of our constitution must be spinning in their graves about now....

Now, with the Obama election, the courts nationally will no doubt be packed with liberals from top to bottom, and the whole nation will have this precedent to look forward to on every imaginable issue....The only hope is if actions such as this FINALLY make people wake up and realize just what a lot of them have voted for...I am sure this isn't the kind of CHANGE a lot of them had in mind...
